I thought I would take time this Sunday morning, day 5 of Black History month to say something that has been on my mind. and...Please don't bombard me with negative comments.
my hair after braiding when wet |
Today, I can say with all honesty that I am not finding what I thought I would. Sure there are lots of hair sites and I subscribe to their feeds and check them out daily. What I am finding or maybe I should say what I am NOT finding, are natural hair styles feature people with a the tighter curl pattern like the ones most if my friends have.
Now, I realize that there are many textures of hair (I get that) but I see so many beautiful photos of women who have the looser curl pattern. I see the majority of sites showcasing all of these beautiful looser curls and celebrating natural hair (and believe me, there is nothing wrong with that) but what about showing some beautiful Black women with a tighter curl pattern flaunting some cool styles.
The pictures of the hair I'm seeing almost remind me of a term we used back in the day called "good hair". Hopefully we don't use that term anymore but that is still the majority of the styles I see. Long or short loose curls and many lighter skinned (not light like white but more caramel as opposed to darker brown) model-like women looking like they are ready for a photo shoot. I have seen darker women too but then they usually look more like African models.
my hair after washing- braid and dry is a 2 day process! |
I'm going to hang in there and continue my search. Who knows? Maybe I will l find some what I'm looking for. Just wanted to put this out there in case anyone else has noticed this.
Your hair is so beautiful. I am considering sisterlocks again. I had a set previously that I cut off. Love your site. Thank you.
