How long have you worn your hair in a natural hairstyle? What is your hair length? 

my hair has been loc'd up since 1989. length HP ++

What natural hairstyle do you currently wear? If you wear locs, what is your loc method? (Sisterlocks, traditional, etc)

ital dreads, never twisted, or fuss with it, just natural

Why did you decide to wear this natural hairstyle?

My hair was very hard to manage in the 80's it did not take chemicals or curl treatments well. and it grew really fast so hair cuts never lasted long. It was the natural progression to let me hair do what it wanted to.

Do you recall any negative reactions to, or comments about your natural hair? If so please give an example(s)

in the late 80's and early 90's it was not popular at all to have dreads in the black community. it was kinda of seen as a messy nasty hair style that only big celebrities could pull off. i grew up in an area on the eastcoast with alot of west indian presence all well and they surprisingly did not care at all for my nappy look. mostly the white deadhead and rock music folks thought it was cool style because of reggae music and the legendary Bob Marley connection. and cause it was cool.

What changes have you seen (If any) in the way people react to natural hair since you began wearing your locs? 

very different views now, dreads are a mainstream hair style in all american culture

athletes actors and business professionals have let their locs grow natural. musicians like myself and those who follow rastafari teachings have always let them fly

What is the routine you use for maintaining your hair? 

none

i have two sons both with dreads, I'm not sure which one is in the picture with me as I don't remember. and they both were at the park that day.

they've never had a hair cut and have been loc'd since birth

well loc'd since it loc'd up on it's own maybe around 3 or 4yrs oldcan't speak for them really but they get constant attention because their hair.. mostly good

at this point they're pretty use to comments

these almost 2 yrs old so there's a lot of growth since then

Last but not least....has anyone ever asked you the question "is that your real hair?" If so, how did you reply?

im asked if this is my real hair everyday of my life
i say yes it is
they always say, for real?
and i say yes
i've not had a hair cut since 1989
